Viatrail ("the app") is an offline-first hiking map application. There is no account to create and no sign-in. We do not collect personal information, we do not use analytics or advertising, and the routes, tracks and waypoints in your library never leave your device.
Everything you create or import stays on your device. None of it is sent to us:

The app uses your device's location for map display, navigation, and track recording. Location is processed entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store it.
Track recording continues while the app is in the background, so that a recording is not lost when your screen locks or you switch apps. The recorded track is written to your device's local library, and nowhere else.
When you view or download an area of the map while online, the app requests map tiles from our tile server at tiles.viatrail.app, which is served through Cloudflare. As with any request to any website, that server receives your device's IP address and the identity of the tiles requested, which indicates the map area being viewed. We do not associate these requests with an identity, build profiles from them, or combine them with anything else.
Map tiles downloaded for offline use are stored on your device, and viewing them later requires no network request at all.
Searching your library runs entirely on your device against locally stored data. Search queries are not sent to us.
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, children included.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
